This gripping position identification system identifies the gripping position of a dressed carcass obtained by performing halving to left and right along the backbone. The system is provided with an image capture device and a gripping position identification device. The image capture device captures an image of a cross section of the dressed carcass. The gripping position identification device identifies, in the image captured by the image capture device, a feature point as a reference for the gripping position, in an inside region of the outline of the cross section.
