Use of reference materials (RMs) in analytical laboratories has been increased from past several years. The purpose is traceability and accuracy in measurement results. The RMs has been used in numerous fields of science such as chemical industries, metallurgy, food industry, medicine, cryobiology, environmental monitoring etc. In environmental monitoring, use of reference gas mixtures (RGMs) is highly needed for calibration of instrument and detection of complex matrices. RGMs should be simple to prepare, accurate, reproducible and stable over a period of time. Environmental sample have many variabilities such as low and high concentration level of analytes, possibility of interferences, spatial and temporal variability in matrix, so to quantify the sample there is strong need of RGMs. In ambient air, pollutants present in nmol/mol and pmol/mol amount fractions, to overcome the limit of quantification of these pollutants RGMs are perfect solution.
