It is an object to provide a new means useful for suppressing autophagy activation or reduction in activity. An autophagy activator comprising components (1) and (2) as active ingredients: (1) at least one selected from the group consisting of ascorbic acid, ascorbic acid derivatives and salts thereof; and (2) cysteine. A method for inhibiting reduction in autophagy activity due to component (3), comprising using component (1) in combination with component (3): (1) at least one selected from the group consisting of ascorbic acid, ascorbic acid derivatives, and salts thereof, (3) riboflavin, Riboflavin derivatives and salts thereof.
