To provide a screening method of an improvement agent for skin barrier function deteriorated due to stress, and also to provide a more highly effective skin barrier function improvement agent.SOLUTION: A method is for screening a rough skin surface improvement agent by using, as an index, an epidermal cell differentiation-related protein reduced by addition of enkephalin or an expression level of a gene coding thereof, through utilizing a cultured epidermal cell.
