Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan coccidian parasite belonging to Phylum Apicomplexa and is the causative agent of toxoplasmosis as a zoonotic disease around the world. It is one of the most important protozoa which is transmitted via various routes and infects several warm-blooded animals. The seroprevalence of T. gondii infection is high worldwide and leads to clinical, psychological, and economic problems. At present, available drug therapy for toxoplasmosis has severe side effects, so the development of new anti-toxoplasma drugs or effective vaccines is mandatory. Therefore, different measures have been taken for the development of anti-toxoplasmosis vaccines, and various studies have shown that DNA vaccines could be one of the most successful approaches against the intracellular parasite, T. gondii.
