A shaping assembly for producing spiral shaped food products is described. It includes a die that defines â‰¥1 aperture centred on an aperture axis, extending to an aperture exit and allowing for the movement of a stream of a food mass. A shaping tool with â‰¥1 slicing blade is disposed over the aperture exit to divide the food mass into several portions. A coupling arrangement engages the shaping tool to facilitate rotation of the slicing blade, which spins the food mass into a spiral shape. A crimper separates the spiral shaped food stream into discrete items.
