Equipment for preparing beverages that include milk includes a refrigerated compartment with several milk containers, each of which is provided with a line for supplying milk from the container. The equipment has a sensor, e.g. a load cell, a spring balance or a strain gauge, for monitoring the supply of milk from the compartment and a valve for opening and closing any of the lines in response to the result of monitoring the supply of milk. Dispensing of milk from any container may be terminated, e.g. if the container is empty, while dispensing milk from other containers may be permitted. The equipment may be arranged to prevent milk being dispensed if ≥1 containers is empty or if milk from a container has exceeded its use-by date.
