An economical, energy-saving apparatus for baking food products, e.g. pretzels, includes an enclosed housing with an inlet for the introduction of the product to be baked and a door covering the inlet. The apparatus further includes an outlet for removal of the baked product, a heating assembly for baking the product, a conveyor system to convey the product from the inlet through the heating assembly to the outlet, and a removal apparatus to remove the product. A material dispenser for dispensing salt or similar material onto the product to be baked is also included. A lift mechanism lifts the material container out of engagement with the conveyor assembly.
