A machine is described for cutting and pitting fruit, particularly peaches which have a cleft extending in a direction of the line of suture of the fruit. The machine is comprised of 3 fundamental parts or working zones. The 1st is a feeding device for feeding the fruit to a 2nd zone which includes an automatic positioning device in the form of an endless conveyor carrying a number of cups or receptacles to receive the fruit. The 3rd and final zone is an automatic cutting and pitting device having a fruit gripping assembly, a circular knife to divide the fruit into 2 parts and a knife for pitting the fruit.
