The agent, for adding to rinsing baths to remove contaminants from the surface of foods and feeds, contains: 1-10% (by wt.) anionic surface active agent, 0.1-4.0% non-ionic surface active agent (polyoxyethylene adduct), 1-25% sequestering agent, 1-4% redox regulating substance, 5-30% buffering agent, 0.1-0.5% preservatives, and stabilizers, extenders and diluents to 100%. The agents are especially useful in the preparation of foods for freezing, and for cleaning fruit and vegetables.
